A Journey of Liberation
Originally, the inception of this project was met with obstacles due to the limitations imposed in my homeland, rendering it unfeasible to execute and record the video there. To circumvent potential complications, I pivoted the concept, opting to approach the theme of compulsory hijab from a fresh perspective.
This multifaceted project delves deep into the profound moment when individuals realize that the shackles of societal constraints no longer bind them in their native land. As a woman navigating through a society rife with restrictions and bereft of freedom, I found myself contemplating the myriad possibilities of life unfettered by these oppressive norms.
Central to the performance is the examination of Iran's stringent laws mandating the wearing of hijab, backed by the looming specter of police enforcement and the ominous threat of imprisonment. This draconian regulation casts its shadow not only over the lives of adults but also extends its reach to encompass the innocence of children as young as nine or ten.
The essence of this performance lies in its ability to capture the visceral reactions of individuals as they grapple with the newfound absence of this oppressive mandate, liberated from the compulsion to veil themselves in their homeland. Through the medium of conceptual photography, employing techniques such as low shutter speeds, the very essence of freedom is meticulously captured and immortalized.
This ongoing project serves as a poignant testament to the collective experience of liberation felt by many, transcending the confines of individual narratives. It stands as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the indomitable pursuit of freedom in the face of adversity.
